" In other cities, you have Lake View or Beach View… in Wakefield, you have Stanley View! My encounter with this hotel got off to a rocky start when the taxi driver dropped us off at the wrong building at the other end of the street. However, when I rang the hotel owner to ask for directions, she was really friendly and even stood outside to make sure we found it. The hotel itself was very homely - in fact, almost like someone’s house, and I instantly felt at home. Our room was right at the top of the building and we were surprised to discover that we’d actually been given a suite - not just the bedroom and bathroom, but also 3 other bedrooms, containing a total of 9 beds! It was very bizarre, but the rooms were all clean and comfortable and I would certainly recommend it. It was also good value - £45 for bed and breakfast for two."

"I work in big posh hotels, so I didn't have very high expectations of a little guesthouse like Stanley View, but I couldn't fault it. The staff were very busy trying to do ten different jobs at once, but they were still very attentive and happy to help. I went down to the restaurant to see if I could get something for dinner, and boy do they know how to feed you up north! It was only a fish & chips but it could have kept me going for a week. The room and facilities were basic, but I couldn't fault anything, I got a good nights sleep and woke up without any flea bites, what more could one ask for?"
